Dog Training

Sometimes we train our pets without being aware that we are training them. We always put our dog Quintin on a leash before taking him out on his daily walks around the yard. We would walk him around the parameter of the yard and let him mark his boundaries. He got to go along when I went up to get the mail, he would even watch and bark to let me know that the mail went, but our mail box was across the street so he would get tied to our side of the street while I crossed the road to get the mail. He had to wait for me get back to continue our walk. One day a cat came into our yard and he was watching from the window, I didn't see the cat. My husband was in the driveway washing his car, I opened the front door to tell him to come in and eat supper. Quintin bolted through the door and after the cat. We both tried calling him back and he ignored us. We could see a car coming down the road and we were sure he would get hit. The cat just made it across the road back to the neighbors yard just as the car went by with Quintin 5 feet behind him the whloe way. To our amazement Quintin stopped just as he reached the boundary of the road and scratched some dirt toward the road and came trotting back with a look that said Hey did you see me chase that cat out of my yard?. He had learned from our walks not to cross that boundary. He would of surly gotten killed if he wouldn't of stopped. We were very pleased he had learned that lesson, even though we weren't aware that we were teaching him not to cross the road.

What they teach us.

I met a new friend yesterday at another forum, we were talking about our dogs, He raises German Shepherds. He said he believes that God sent him his dogs to teach him, he said one of his dogs has a cross on his forehead. The following two Bible verses is what he has seen in his dogs and what they have taught him.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Isn't that a lovely thought and so fitting for our four footed friends.
